Below is are three examples of how I would use this blog in my future classrooms.
For the presentation of a lesson, I could either present it in class or include/post a link to a complete online lesson. An idea stolen from a previous teacher is to use Livebinders.com or other, similar websites, to create on online lesson. I would assign the blog as homework or as an activity to do in class.
The students would use the comment section to have open dialogs, class discussions, and to post their own material. The blog could be used to get everyone started brainstorming for a difficult project, to help coordinate a large class project effort, or to even post pictures of projects or class information to involve parents as well.
(These examples were completely made up and are to be used for demonstration purposes only. This blog is a class project.)
1. After watching the documentary in class and discussing the ways art can affect our daily lives, post in a comment a specific example of how art affects YOUR everyday life or that of someone you know? Is it a direct influence or a subtle one? There's a bonus point if you do a little research to find the possible causes/influences of your personal influence, or if you can't find anything direct, research an art movement and how it has affected every day culture.
2. Post a picture or a link to a site with a picture of your Ted Talk project.
3. Hey everyone! The 2nd period class mural project is on! The proposal was accepted and the official start date is 8/15/2011. Parents, the location and directions from the school to the site are posted below, as are the four weekend dates we will be working on this. I have also attached the permission form for your students to participate in the project. Students, remind your parents to send this in or else you cannot work with us on the project on site. You will be relegated to breaking tile and mixing the dry grout ingredients at school if you don't.
